Puppy Mills

There's a good article on puppy mills on CDHS's web site.

Many North Dakotans are unaware that puppy mills are being run right here in our home state. Multiple situations spanning the entire state have recently come to light and make it all too clear that they do exist close to home - and how utterly cruel and abhorrent they are.

I'm very concerned about the puppy mill problem in North Dakota, I'm trying to figure out as to why The Barkin Barnyard Kennels hasn't been investigated? This kennel has several breeds of puppies for sale and alot of the litters have hernia problems.

I, too, am very concerned. We need to get legislation passed on puppy mills. Although I'm not sure how to go about doing it or where to start, I'm going to look into it. It may be too late for the legislative session coming up...

Rescues cannot leagally get involved. the First step would be talk to your local represenative tell them your concerns and see what the first step is.

actually the cdhs provided testimony for a current bill in legislation, so they got involved.

I AM AN ANGRY DOG OWNER WHO HAS HAD OUR FAMILY PET STOLEN FROM OUR FARM NOV 2010. SEVERAL OTHER DOGS OF SIMILAR BREED HAVE BEEN STOLEN IN A SIMILAR TIME FRAME IN THE AREA. LOCAL LAW ENFORECEMENT HAS NO INTEREST IN RETRIEVAL EVEN THOUGH AN ILLEGAL PUPPY MILL WAS OPERATING IN THE COMMUNITY @ THE TIME. I KNOW OF DOGS BEING KEPT IN AN UPSTAIRS BEDROOM OUTSIDE OF MINOT FOR BREEDING PURPOSES.THE DOGS GET BATHROOM BREAKS ONLY. WHY DOESN'T MUNICIPAL GOV'T JUST SAY NO TO THESE KINDS OF PRACTICES? WE NEED A STARTING POINT TO PUT A STOP TO THESE ABUSES - INCLUDING SEVERING AN ANIMALS VOCAL CHORDS.

MY DOG WAS STOLEN NOV 2010 FROM OUR FARM IN BOTTINEAU,ND.LAW ENFORCEMENT DIDN'T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE A PUPPY MILL WAS SHUT DOWN SOON AFTER. WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR OUR LG MALE BLACK RETRIEVER 3 YRS.OLD 263-4861 REWARD OFFERED. SEVERAL OTHER LABS DISAPPPEARED IN AREA AND A DOG WAS PICKED UP IN BOTTINEAU BY A PERSON CLAIMING TO BE FROM THE HUMANE SOCIETY. DOES ANYONE CARE?

I WANT MY BL. MALE LAB 3 YRS OLD BACK.HE WAS STOLEN FROM OUR FARM NOV2010. THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE WOULDN'T EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THAT A PUPPY MILL OPERATION HAD JUST BEEN SHUT DOWN IN BOTINEAU AND DOGS RELOCATED. I HAD A RIGHT TO A STRAIGHT ANSWER IN AN INQUIRY MADE ABOUT MY DOG. MUNICIPAL GOVT. HAS TO DO MORE THAN JUST ENFORCE DOG RESTRAINT.A NEW ANIMAL ADVOCACY LAW IS ON THE HORIZON FOR ND. REWARD OFFERED FOR MY DOG 263-4861.

Anonymous-regarding the possibility of a breeding operation in Minot-do you know the whereabouts? If so, would you be willing to share the information with Souris Valley Animal Shelter? If yes, then maybe something can get done about this: http://www.svaspets.com/

I very bad about your missing black lab. If something ever happened to my dog I don't know what I would without her. It's unfortunate that law enforcement won't help you.

What can we do to get puppy mills investigated here in ND ?? I recently contacted www.barkinbarnyardkennels.com and they REFUSED to allow me to visit them and see the dogs in person. They wanted $100.00 deposit and i could look on their website for updated pictures of my purchase. I could only see my puppy once it was ready to go home with me and I had paid the balance. I have an Aunt who is a reputable breeder of American Eskimos and she never ever refused a customer the opportunity to visit her Kennel and welcomed visitors anytime. I have grave suspicions about barkin barn yard not only because they refused to let me visit, but when I called and spoke to her on the phone she was very unprofessional and seemed anxious about an “unknown and unauthorized person” knocking on her door during business hours. Very strange indeed! I simply wanted to see the animals she was selling and the environment they were living in. I don’t think that is an unreasonable thing to request considering she is selling these “mutts” for purebred prices! http://topics.areavoices.com/2011/02/08/trf-shelter-rescues-18-small-neglected-dogs/
